Fortunately, because I and they speak French, their second language, we were able to communicate as I introduced them to English. Since then I've had the time to devote 6-8 hours a week tutoring, helping with homework and occasionally counseling. As a result, I'm proud to say that my mentees have moved up from English Language Learners courses to mainstream college preparatory courses, in less than two years. I see bright futures for my mentees, and I'm very happy to have played an integral part in their success as students and people.”
