"This program is an opportunity not only for youth to be more connected to their community, but also for adults to gain awareness of other cultures. From these experiences, mentors and mentees work to honor the strengths and beauty innately within, therefore strengthening our community as a whole. It has been a true blessing and one of the most wonderful life experiences I've ever had. I am so grateful this program exists and for the relationships it has brought together."

"My mentees arrived in America speaking and reading almost no English. Fortunately, because I and they speak French, their second language, we were able to communicate as I introduced them to English. Since then I've had the time to devote 6-8 hours a week tutoring, helping with homework and occasionally counseling. As a result, I'm proud to say that my mentees have moved up from English Language Learners courses to mainstream college preparatory courses, in less than two years. I see bright futures for my mentees, and I'm very happy to have played an integral part in their success as students and people.”

"When I retired I wanted to do something rewarding. Fortunately I found the Portland Mentoring Alliance Program. I have mentored several wonderful students since retirement, and I'm certain I will value these relationships forever. It has been everything I hoped for and more."
